Asakusa/Ueno area

This is the central area for downtown Tokyo tourism. In addition to the standard temples and shrines, there are many other attractions, such as the Sumida River, famous for its cherry blossoms, and the lush Ueno Park. Not only can you feel the atmosphere of the Edo period, but new spots such as Tokyo Skytree are also attracting attention.

    Asakusa and Sensoji Temple

    Sensoji Temple is known for its impressive Kaminarimon Gate with its large red lantern. The area that still has "Asakusa" in its name was the territory of Sensoji Temple until the Edo period.

  • Tokyo Skytree®

    Tokyo Skytree®

    Boasting a height of 634m, it is one of the tallest towers in the world. The observation deck is 350m above ground, offering a panoramic view of Tokyo.

  • Ueno Park

    Ueno Park

    Ueno Park, famous for Shinobazu Pond, is home to a variety of cultural facilities, including the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo National Museum, and Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.

    Ameyoko Shopping Street

    A famous shopping street lined with discount stores, stretching from JR Ueno Station to the area under the elevated tracks in Okachimachi. It is bustling with people enjoying shopping and eating and drinking all year round.

  • Ueno Toshogu Shrine

    Ueno Toshogu Shrine

    Located in Ueno Park, this shrine is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. The current shrine building is said to date back to the time of the third shogun, Iemitsu.

  • Sumida Aquarium

    Sumida Aquarium

    An aquarium located inside Tokyo Skytree Town®. Don't miss the many Magellanic penguins swimming in the indoor pool-style tank. There's also a goldfish exhibit unique to the downtown area.

Tokyo/Ginza area

Ginza is a cultural hub lined with department stores and brand shops. Nihonbashi flourished as the center of Edo and is home to many long-established stores. This area, steeped in culture and tradition, is also home to the Kabukiza Theater. We also recommend the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the greenery.

    The Imperial Palace Outer Gardens are home to many remains of Edo Castle. The highlights are the Fushimi Tower and the Nijubashi Bridge. The Imperial Palace is open to the public twice a day (except on certain days).

  • Tokyo Station

    Tokyo Station

    The red brick Marunouchi Station building at Tokyo Station has a beautiful octagonal dome. There are also shops selling sweets and goods exclusive to Tokyo Station, making it the perfect place to pick out souvenirs.

  • Ginza

    Ginza

    This shopping district is lined with long-established department stores such as Ginza Mitsukoshi and Matsuya Ginza, new facilities such as GINZA SIX and Marronnier Gate Ginza 2, and brand-name shops. There are also plenty of restaurants.

  • Tokyo Midtown Yaesu

    Tokyo Midtown Yaesu

    It is a mixed-use facility with a variety of elements, including approximately 55 shops and restaurants, the Tokyo Yaesu Bus Terminal, and an elementary school.

  • Nihonbashi

    Nihonbashi

    Nihonbashi is known as the starting point of the Tokaido road. It is home to a large number of long-established shops, including the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi main store, Japanese confectionery shops, and traditional craft stores. At Coredo Muromachi, you can enjoy a Japanese culture experience tour.

    There are idol theaters, maid cafes, and many shops selling anime goods and military items. There are also many electronics retailers and PC parts shops.

  • Kabukiza Theatre

    Kabukiza Theatre

    Since its opening in 1889, the theater has continued to host Kabuki performances, captivating audiences. It underwent four major renovations before reaching its current state in 2013. There is a restaurant and souvenir shop on the second basement floor.

  • Tsukiji Honganji Temple

    Tsukiji Honganji Temple

    This is a Jodo Shinshu Honganji temple. The main hall has a modern Indian-style design and is decorated with sculptures of monkeys and elephants. A free concert is held on the last Friday of every month.

  • Sumida River

    Sumida River

    This 23.5km-long river branches off from the Arakawa River at Iwabuchi Water Gate in Kita Ward and flows into Tokyo Bay. It's a famous spot for cherry blossoms in the spring and fireworks in the summer. You can enjoy it all year round, strolling along the riverbank or taking a water bus.

Waterfront/Shinagawa area

Odaiba is a futuristic waterfront area lined with large shopping malls and amusement facilities. There are plenty of leisure spots for everyone to enjoy, from children to adults. The illuminated Rainbow Bridge at night is also popular.

    The international terminal is lined with shops in an Edo-style space, reminiscent of a theme park. Domestic terminals 1 and 2 also have a variety of souvenirs exclusive to Haneda.

  • 東京タワー

    Tokyo Tower ®

    This 333m-tall radio tower offers a panoramic view of Tokyo from the observation decks of the 150m-tall "Main Deck" and the 250m-tall "Top Deck."

    Toyosu Market opened in October 2018. Tour routes have been established, allowing you to enjoy the market. Popular restaurants have been relocated from Tsukiji, and you can enjoy delicious meals there.

    Tokyo's downtown area retains its down-to-earth streetscape. There are over 50 restaurants serving the famous monjayaki around Tsukishima Station. There is also the Tsukuda Machikado Exhibition Hall, which displays the Senkan Mikoshi portable shrine.

    Its official name is Tokyo International Exhibition Center. It is famous for the Comic Market, which is held during the Obon and New Year holidays. Many events and trade fairs are held here throughout the year.

    A fusion of underwater creatures and technology, the aquarium is full of surprises, including the Jellyfish Rumble, which colors jellyfish with sound and light, and the dolphin performance, which uses lighting effects.

    There are the graves of the Ako Ronin and Asano Naganori, who are known from the "Chushingura" story, as well as the "Ako Gishi Memorial Hall." The "Ako Gishi Festival" is held in April and on December 14th.

Shinjuku and Roppongi area

Shinjuku, a terminal station with one of the highest passenger numbers in the world, is a city with many different faces, with a high-rise building district to the west of the station, a shopping area to the east, and the entertainment district of Kabukicho to the north. Roppongi is also known as a sophisticated city that showcases art and design, with the National Art Center, Tokyo at its heart.

    This complex includes the vast 4,300m² Mori Garden, Mori Art Museum, shops, restaurants, a cinema, etc. The Tokyo City View on the 52nd floor offers a panoramic view of Tokyo.

    In addition to about 130 shops and restaurants, there are also cultural facilities such as the Suntory Museum of Art and Billboard Live TOKYO. The vast green space is a popular place to relax.

    Kanda Antique Bookstore District

    This used bookstore district is packed with around 180 second-hand bookstores. There are many specialty stores selling art books, history books, and subculture books, so you're sure to find some unexpected bargains.
